Amazon Beats Defamation Suit Over ‘Fake’ Burberry Scarf Review


Amazon.com Inc. and one of its website customers beat back a pro se defamation suit over the authenticity of a Burberry scarf.

Florida residents David McCall and Tatyana Aleshonkova sold a scarf online to an Illinois resident who said on Amazon’s storefront the scarf was fake. The scarf sellers sued the customer and Amazon in Florida for not taking down the review, where the district court said Amazon was statutorily immune from suit, and the customer was too removed from Florida for the case to continue.
