Amazon’s new Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids tablets have been given a refresh which includes a welcome boost in performance, USB-C charging, and hands-free access to Alexa. The affordable range of Android tablets is already available to pre-order on Amazon with the Fire 7 starting from $60 and the Fire 7 Kids Edition from $110, depending on which configuration you choose.

The handy boost in performance is achieved thanks to an upgraded processor that is said to be 30% faster and double the RAM of its predecessor. There’s also a 40% increase in battery life which means the Fire 7 tablets can manage up to 10 hours of usage. As mentioned in the headline, a USB Type-C charging port is also included on the Fire 7 range for the very first time, enabling the tablet to be fully charged in 4 hours. There’s a choice of 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage, and the 7-inch IPS display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 with 171ppi.

You’ll find a 2MP camera on both the front and back of the Fire 7 tablet which is capable of 720p (HD) recording quality for Zoom or video calls with friends and family via Alexa. Speaking of Alexa, it can be accessed via voice command to open apps, play music and video, as well as trivial tasks such as asking what the weather is like.

The Fire 7 Kids Edition base model has a starting price of $110 but it does come bundled with a kid-proof case, a 2-year worry-free guarantee (if it breaks Amazon will replace it for free), and a year’s subscription to Amazon Kids+.

The vanilla Fire 7 tablet is available to pre-order in Black, Denim, and Rose colorways and starts from $59.99/$74.99 depending on whether you choose the ad-supported version or not, with Amazon stating that orders will begin shipping from June 29th.
