Amazon’s next CEO commits to producing gaming titles for Luna as Google backpedals

Google made the announcement that it was canning its in-house gaming studio in order to concentrate its efforts on procuring third-party titles for its Stadia game streaming service, a move that makes some of us worry about the longevity of the product. In stark contrast, Amazon’s next CEO is bullish on the future of making games for the company’s Luna gaming service.

Andy Jassey, the man that will become the next Amazon CEO when Jeff Bezos retires later this year, has confirmed his commitment to making video games.

“Some businesses take off in the first year, and others take many years,” wrote Jassy, currently the head of Amazon’s cloud computing division and Frazzini’s boss. “Though we haven’t consistently succeeded yet in AGS, I believe we will if we hang in there.”

Jassey also revealed in an email on Monday that he “believes this team will get there if we stay focused on what matters most”.

While a little vague and clearly meant to be motivational, the comment lends itself to giving Luna subscribers, and content providers such as Ubisoft, confidence that Amazon isn’t planning on throwing in the towel halfway through the fight. The same of which cannot currently be said for Google and its Stadia gaming service, sadly.
