As if conference calls weren’t enough, AMC and Zoom are partnering to bring massive video meetings to the movie theater. Businesses can rent out three-hour blocks at select AMC locations starting next year. And if the boss is okay with it, you can even watch a movie after the conference call.
I’m not sure what else to say about this whole thing, so here’s a few memes:
Now, I love falling asleep in AMC’s reclining theater chairs. Throwing a conference call on screen would knock me out in record time. But I probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to fall asleep during one of these things, as they seem to be intended for celebrations—your company has a profitable year, so it packs 150 employees into a theater to take a call from the CEO and watch Finding Nemo.
For better or worse, this AMC and Zoom partnership is a result of declining theater revenue. Customers simply aren’t interested in seeing movies on the big screen; they’re now in the habit of staying home. (And even if you go back to the theater, the audience is awful and entitled! People forgot how to shut up and put away their phones.)
