Price and Availability

Sleek and Compact Dock Design

This handheld dock is meant to be shown off. It allows you to connect your handheld device to your TV so you can play games on the big screen. It’s compatible with Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, Razer Edge, ROG Ally, and most tablets and smartphones.

Your device connects via a dedicated USB-C cord that is attached to the back of the dock. The way that the dock is set up, it’s ideal for devices with a USB-C input on the top or the side of the device.

This dock’s layout makes it very easy to use. You simply plug USB-C and HDMI cables (also connected to your TV) into the ports in the back, and you’re ready to go! Additional ports on this dock include one Ethernet port, and three USB-A ports for connecting additional controllers for multiplayer gaming.

You can adjust the angle of the display stand to fit a variety of devices, both large and small. The display stand also folds flat for easy storage, or portability to take this dock with you on the go.

Another important feature of this dock is that it provides passthrough charging. You can keep your handheld gaming devices charged while playing on the couch. This encourages me to keep my Steam Deck plugged into the dock—on display and ready to play—instead of hiding away in its protective case.

Dock Device Compatibility

The layout of this dock, with its USB-C connector designed for plugging in at the top or side of a handheld device, means that if you’re trying to connect to a Nintendo Switch console, you’ll need to flip it upside down in order to connect to the Switch’s USB-C port, since it’s located at the bottom of the gaming device.

If you want to connect a Nintendo Switch to this dock, you’ll want to make sure to use the AC adapter that came with the Switch as your power delivery source. Its worth noting that if you plug in a controller that isn’t compatible with the console you’re playing on, this dock won’t magically make it compatible.

For example, I had a wired Xbox controller plugged into the back of the dock. It worked seamlessly when I had my Steam Deck connected to the Razer dock, but the Nintendo Switch did not recognize the controller at all.

Not all mobile devices are compatible with the dock’s HDMI output capabilities. My Google Pixel 7a did not send a video signal to the TV screen when I had it plugged in, but the passthrough charging was working, so I could still use it as a charging display stand. I also tried to plug a Kindle Fire 10 into this dock, but it didn’t connect at all.

RGB Customization

Changing the RGB glow patterns on the Razer Handheld Dock Chroma is as simple as pressing a button on the side. There are many different options to pick, ranging from slow pulsating glows of color, to rapidly changing rainbow colors. You simply cycle through the RGB options by tapping the button on the side of the device.

Should You Buy the Razer Handheld Dock Chroma?

This dock is a fun way to add some extra RGB glow to your handheld gaming devices. I really enjoyed connecting my Steam Deck to this dock and playing my games on the TV. I know I can just play them on my PC, but sometimes it’s better to play couch co-op games on an actual couch.

I really like how portable this dock is, too. I can fold it up, grab my Steam Deck, and take my games with me on the go to a friend’s house. They can plug in their controllers, and we can play games from my Steam library in their living room instead! If this sounds like a great idea to you, then this dock is definitely worth buying.

Another great use for playing games on your smartphone. Instead of holding your phone the whole time, you can plug in the USB-C cord to charge your device and attach a controller. It’s also usable simply as a charging display stand for your tablet.

There are all kinds of options, depending on what kind of handheld devices you want to put on display. This dock from Razer is a great way to add some extra flair to your TV setup!
