With Google I/O on the way and the Android 12 Beta announced, a number of interesting little factoids have been discovered. It seems that Google could launch as many as four new Pixel smartphones, including one running with the codename “Passport” which is a foldable phone.
According to 9to5Google, the 2021 lineup of Pixel phones consist of these four handsets with the following codenames and model numbers:
- Pixel 5a 5G (Barbet): G4S1M
- Pixel 6 range (Oriole): GR1YH
- Raven Pixel 6 family (Raven): GF5KQ
- Pixel foldable (Passport): GPQ72
The model numbers are from what will be the Japanese variants of the new Pixel smartphones, and although we expect the Pixel 6 range to be announced sometime around September – October, there’s no guarantee that the Passport foldable will launch during 2021. The Pixel 5a 5G is thought to be scheduled to make its debut sometime around the middle of this year.
There’s every chance that the Passport may be a development model that Google is using to finetune Android 12’s behavior with foldable smartphones, but there are rumors that the search giant plans to launch a Pixel foldable, it just might not be during 2021.
