It certainly raised some eyebrows to see that Google not only launched the newest Pixel 9 range with Android 14, but also to see that Android 15 has taken a while to land on Pixel phones in general since its AOSP release. Now, though, the wait is finally over.
The latest version of Android, Android 15, is finally landing on Pixel smartphones, over a month after it was released on AOSP. Google hasn’t listed out which Pixel devices will be getting the update, but it’s expected that all devices that were eligible for the Android 15 beta, as well as the newer Pixel 9 series of smartphones, are eligible for the update (Google tends to release new Pixels with the newest version of Android out of the box, but the phones were released before the OS this time around). That list includes the following phones:
- Pixel 6
- Pixel 6 Pro
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7
- Pixel 7 Pro
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel 8
- Pixel 8 Pro
- Pixel 8a
- Pixel 9
- Pixel 9 Pro
- Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Pixel 9 Pro Fold
As for what’s new here, Android 15 introduces a new AI-powered Theft Detection Lock feature that automatically locks your device if it senses someone is attempting to steal it. There’s also a new Private Space feature that acts as a secure folder for sensitive apps like banking and social media. When locked, these apps become invisible on the app list, recent apps view, notifications, and settings, requiring extra authentication if you do want to access them. There are also enhancements for large-screen devices, including a pinnable taskbar for quick access to favorite apps.
It’s a pretty packed update, and there’s a lot in it, so you’ll definitely want to check it out on your Pixel phone if you want to check them out better. If you don’t have a Pixel phone, you’ll need to wait for your phone’s manufacturer to release it.
