Far and away, Apple’s AirPods Pro have been one of the most popular tech products of the past few years for our readers. A new updated version, Apple AirPods Pro second generation, are set to release on September 23. They’re up for preorder now at various retailers (see at Amazon). Read on to find where to preorder them, what new features they offer, and if you should upgrade.

What’s new in these second-gen AirPods Pro? The short answer is that they sound better, with deeper bass and clearer high tones. They’re powered by the new H2 chip, which offers better noise cancellation, better battery life (up to six hours on a single charge), and improved three-dimensional sound.

Apple says the AirPods Pro offer up to twice the noise cancellation of the previous model (which I regularly use while mowing the lawn, and works quite well). They also have a feature called “Adaptive Transparence” that actively reduces the volume of loud noises in the environment like sirens or power tools.

The second-gen AirPods Pro have touch control volume, so all you have to do is swipe on the stem to make them louder or quieter. They also ship with an extra-small silicon tip, in addition to the three sizes offered before.

If you’re prone to losing your earbuds, you’ll like this feature: They offer Find My support. The case has a little speaker that emits a sound when prompted in the Find My app. The case can also be charged on an Apple Watch charger (in additional to a MagSafe charger or standard Qi charger). Additionally, the case has a little hoop for attaching a lanyard.

Overall, it sounds like these are a decent step up from the previous model. On the other hand, if you’re willing to forego the upgrades, you can currently pick up the previous model on sale for $179.99 at Amazon.
