Apple Arcade adding ‘Layton,’ ‘Monster Hunter Stories’ to fold

If you’re a fan of Nintendo 3DS titles but don’t want to dig out the portable from storage, Apple Arcade has players covered with two games coming to the service that will scratch that nostalgic itch.

    Layton's Mystery Journey

The first is “Layton’s Mystery Journey,” which is a Level 5’s seventh entry to the “Professor Layton” series. Originally in 2017, it had a worldwide release on iOS, Android and Nintendo 3DS. For those unfamiliar with the series, it’s a game built around brain teasers and wrapped in engrossing storyline. Expect inventive riddles and puzzles as Katrielle Layton solves mysteries alongside her friends Emiliana Perfetti and Ernest Greeves.

The game is more episodic this time around rather than focusing on one story-driven narrative. “Layton’s Mystery Journey” fills a unique niche in the Apple Arcade library, one that will satisfy fans of puzzle games. “Layton’s Mystery Journey” is expected to come out soon on Apple Arcade.

The other notable game with a more traditional video game background is “Monster Hunter Stories.” Fans who played the Nintendo Switch title “Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin” can find out how the spin-off series started with this title. Like “Layton’s Mystery Journey,” it was released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2017.

If you’re looking for a turn-based Japanese role-playing game, this title and “Fantasian” will satisfy that craving. Unfortunately, the game appears to lack controller support so players will have to settle touch-screen controls. That can make the experience of riding a Monstie and exploring the world cumbersome but it shouldn’t ruin the experience entirely. It should be playable and it will let fans of the sequel enjoy the story more. They’ll find out the in-depth background of Avinia, Lilia and Riverto.

“Monster Hunter Stories” is scheduled to launch on Apple arcade Friday.

    MasterChef: Let's Cook!

The last piece of news is a new Apple Original is coming to the service. Titled “MasterChef: Let’s Cook!,” the game by Tilting Point has a “Cooking Mama” vibe. Players have to prepare, plate and serve dishes in a format based on the TV show.

Unlike the other two projects, “MasterChef: Let’s Cook!” will be updated weekly with in-game events based on themes such as a Gourmet Burger Show. It looks like even if players perfect a dish, there’ll be plenty more to uncover across different seasons as the developer plans to add more content.
