Apple celebrates Veterans Day with Apple Watch Activity Challenge and more

Today is Veterans Day and Apple is celebrating in a handful of different ways. There is an Apple Watch Activity Challenge available with a limited-time award as well as a new Time to Walk episode available through Apple Fitness+.

You’ll also notice a banner on Apple’s website thanking Veterans for their service and reminding them of the Veterans and Military Purchase Program.

The Apple Watch Activity Challenge for Veterans Day encourages users to complete any workout for 11 minutes or more:

Earn this award on November 11 by doing any workout for 11 minutes or more. Record your time with the Workout app or any app that adds workouts to Health.

If you successfully complete the challenge with any workout app that logs data to Apple’s Fitness app, you’ll unlock the virtual achievement on the iPhone, Apple Watch, and in Apple’s Messages app. You’ll also gain access to exclusive stickers that can be used in the Messages app, FaceTime, and more.

You can also complete the challenge using Apple Fitness+, which is Apple’s own workout service that offers a variety of different categories of content.

Speaking of Apple Fitness+, there’s also a new Time to Walk episode available with J.R. Martinez, a former U.S. Army soldier. Apple says:

J.R. Martinez is a U.S. army veteran, actor, and motivational speaker. He starred in the popular daytime soap opera “All My Children” and won season 13 of the TV series “Dancing with the Stars.” While serving in the Iraq war, J.R. sustained a life-changing injury. On this walk, he reflects on how the healing process caused him to rethink his sense of purpose. He also talks about what inspired a shift in how he relates to others.

On social media today, Tim Cook also thanked Veterans for their service:

On this Veterans Day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, as well as their families. Their dedication inspires us to strive for a better future. Thank you for your unwavering commitment.

Finally, Apple’s website reminds shoppers that a 10% discount is available to current and Veteran members of the US Military, National Guard and Reserve. Immediate family members who reside in the same household are also eligible. Note that this offer is always available and is not specifically limited to Veterans Day.
