Chelan Men’s Golf Association: Real Winners are Local Charities

The Lake Chelan Men’s Club Golf Association held its annual “APPLE CUP” Tournament July 17th -18th, with local charities once again the real winner. This year’s tournament returned to a 2-day event, following the COVID restraints. The field of 84 golfers enjoyed a format that included Saturdays two-man (net) best-ball and Sundays as a two-man combined (net) score, with the final results merging the 2-day final scores. Saturdays play was followed by a “Horse-Race” competition which proved to be a very entertaining and exciting event. The Horse-Race winners, Ellis Nierenberg and Tom Steggall, outlasted 50 participants to claim the victory. Sundays play closed with a ruckus “live auction” and award presentations!
The Lake Chelan Men’s Golf Association thanks the participants and community for its support of the annual “Apple Cup” Golf Tournament at the Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course. The mission of the “APPLE CUP” Tournament is to provide a venue in which funds can be raised to support to our community members and local charities in need of funding. All proceeds stay local!!!!
In the past money raised provided funding for, yet not limited to, such contributions as . . .
- Two annual $1000+ scholarships for Chelan and Manson High Schools
- B) Support for residents impacted by fires
- C) Chelan Food Bank
* We continue to seek out community areas of need to lend financial support as well.
Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course Superintendent Aaron McCabe and his staff are to be credited with having the golf course in outstanding shape, particularly considering the high volume of play this year. Big high five’s goes out to our Lake Chelan Municipal Club Professionals, Jim Oscarson and Mark Lawrence for their direction and organization.

This year’s “APPLE CUP” Charity Golf Classic was the most successful in recent memory! All proceeds from “The APPLE CUP” will remain local as a way to give back to the community and area families. The Men’s Club Executive Board of John Hancock (President), Raymond Wilson (VP) and Matt Froman (Sec/Tres) were extremely proud of this year’s event and look for its continued growth and participation.
