Apple Cup opener: basketball edition

Good morning, Coug fans! With the OG Apple Cup looking less and less likely, I’m here to update you that we still have an opportunity to watch our Washington State Cougars beat the University of Washington Huskies.

Women’s basketball landed in Seattle yesterday, hungry for the opportunity. Let’s discuss!

First up on our check list is how to watch the game- it’s airing on Pac 12 Washington! Today! At 4pm Pacific time.

This WSU team has a lot of sophomore and junior talent, which we like. Not to say senior Chanelle Molina won’t be seeing court time- her career at Washington State has brought her 360 field goals made, 309 of those being 3 pointers.

I expect to see Emma Nankervis on the court- she played in 26 games last season, 7 of which she started as a true freshman. She likes the rebounds, averaged a career high during their own Cal week last season!

However, a powerhouse we should definitely anticipate is Bella Murekatete- had 21 starts last season as a true freshman, and she led the team for highest field goal percentage at 51.3%. She’s consistent and dynamic. Put her on your radar.

While those are just some of the exciting players you can expect to see later today, I want to take a moment to address a discrepancy I found. ESPN has some incorrect heights and some missing players for this season, so if you want to do some research on your own, check out the 2020-21 Women’s Basketball Roster here.

Alright Coug fans, I hope I’ve successfully gotten you excited for some hoops today! Go support your Women’s Basketball team- airing on Pac 12 Washington. I also hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy!
