Final plans are being made and excitement is building for the 2022 Brushy Mountain Apple Festival in downtown North Wilkesboro on Saturday, Oct. 1, said Gary Hayes, president of the Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club.
“Most of our previous vendors are returning and some new ones coming, but craft and food vendor spaces are still available,” added Hayes. Go to applefestival.net or call 336-921-3499 to apply for a vendor space.
The festival has been the biggest or one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for many local non-profit organizations for decades, with attendance estimated at well over 100,000. It wasn’t held in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19.
In addition to vendors lining the streets of downtown North Wilkesboro, there will be a petting zoo, Appalachian heritage demonstrations, multiple stages with different genres of music, dance performances, lots of Brushy Mountain apples and much more.
New this year, The Block family entertainment center (in former Melody Square building) on the other end of Main Street will be part of the festival with food and craft vendors and activities for children.
WXII Channel 12 will conduct the festival opening ceremony in the Apple Festival Park at the corner of Main and 10th streets at 9 a.m. It officially ends at 5 p.m.
Apple Jam, with food and bluegrass music by Sassafras, is on the Friday night before the festival in the Apple Festival Park.
The Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club has organized the Apple Festival since 1978.
