Apple Honda’s 10th annual breast cancer awareness month fundraising campaign for the North Fork Breast Health Coalition raised $7,300 this year.
The Route 58 auto dealership presented representatives of the organization with the donation on Thursday in the Apple Honda showroom.
Apple’s general manager Bill Fields said the company supports the North Fork Breast Health Coalition in its mission to assist community members coping with a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
“What a great job from all the staff members this year, pivoting their focus to selling used cars because of our lack of new car inventory,” Fields said, referring to the industry-wide new car inventory shortage nationally.
Each year, the dealership typically donates $50 for every new car sold and $1 for every repair made during the month of October, national breast cancer awareness month, to the North Fork Breast Health Coalition. This year, because of the new car inventory situation, the dealership donated $50 for every new and used car sold during October.
“We’ve been supporters of the North Fork Breast Health Coalition since 2013 and we’ve raised $71,642 plus this year’s efforts that yielded $7,300, giving us a total of $78,942,” Fields said.
The North Fork Breast Health Coalition’s Helping Hands program offers $1,000 grants to patients coping with breast cancer. The grant can be used for any purpose. The group also offers — free of charge — yoga, reflexology, massage, meditation, wigs and scarves. The services are provided at the coalition’s office at 185 Old Country Road in Riverhead (opposite DMV plaza).
