Apple launches faster MacBook Pro laptops with new custom chips


Apple Inc. is upgrading its MacBook Pro laptop to feature faster chips, the consumer-electronics giant announced Tuesday.

newly announced custom-designed M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which the company says offer better power efficiency and battery life. The MacBook Pro will fetch up to 22 hours of battery life, which Apple says is the longest ever for one of its laptops.

Apple announced that the new MacBook Pro supports Wi-Fi 6E, advanced HDMI, and 8K displays.

The laptop will come in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes, with the smaller model starting at $1,999 and the larger one beginning at $2,499. The MacBook Pro is open for preorder today, with availability beginning Jan. 24.

Apple also said Tuesday that it was debuting new versions of its Mac mini device with M2 and M2 Pro chips.

“The new M2 Pro chip delivers pro-level performance to Mac mini for the first time, enabling users to run high-performance workflows that were previously unimaginable in such a compact design,” the company said in its release.

The Mac mini starts at $599. It’s also up for preorder starting today, and availability begins Jan. 24.
