Further, the US-based tech behemoth’s India manufacturing units will contribute up to 7 per cent of worldwide shipments and meet about 85 per cent of local demand, which is likely to climb to a record high in 2022. Earlier, several reports said that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 model could be made in India as early as November.
Citing a report by market analytics firm Counterpoint Research, ET mentioned that this matches with a little more than 3 per cent contribution to overseas shipments in 2021 and less than 1. 5 per cent in 2020. Simultaneously, Beijing’s support is expected to fall to 91. 2-93. 5 per cent of global shipments in 2022, from 95. 8 per cent in 2021 and 98. 2 per cent in 2020.
Saynam Chaurasia, analyst at market research firm Canalys, told the business daily: “In India, over 7. 5 million iPhones were made last year; we expect a sharp rise in local production of iPhones. The company is also gearing up to produce the iPhone 14 locally, beginning production much sooner compared to the older generation iPhones launch dates.”
“The iPhone 14’s mass production schedule in India this year is still about six weeks behind China, but the gap has improved significantly,” the analyst tweeted.

“Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that India and China will be able to produce the new iPhone 15 at the same time next year.”
In 2017, Apple started manufacturing in India with the first-generation iPhone SE. Its three contract manufactures make the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models in the country.
