The European Commission are expected to announce antitrust charges against Apple soon after investigating Spotify’s accusations.
The EU’s antitrust body have been investigating the claims from Spotify since May 2019. Spotify say Apple have unfairly put Apple Music competitors at a disadvantage by restricting rivals within their tight ecosystem, as well as criticising their 30% fee via apps downloaded on the App Store.
According to two sources via Reuters, we should see a decision made in the coming weeks. This will involve a statement of objections, which typically includes a fee and measures Apple will have to follow to stop its anti-competitive practices.
While none of this has been confirmed as of yet, it has the potential to see Apple change its business model.
