Apple now selling medical expert-designed Vision Pro accessory that solves top user complaint

Aside from the $3500 starting price, there’s one common complaint about Apple Vision Pro that most customers experience. Apple has worked with an unlikely partner to provide a solution that the Cupertino firm will sell directly.

An Apple-approved comfort strap

ResMed, a medical solutions company with over three decades of experience designing anthropometric accessories, is announcing a new Apple Vision Pro strap specifically designed for extended use.

Apple includes two straps with Apple Vision Pro: the Solo Knit Band and the Dual Loop Band. While the Solo Knit Band has a cleaner look, Apple shifted to offering AVP demos in stores using the Dual Loop Band to address comfort and fit concerns.

Still, neither strap has alleviated a common complaint from Apple Vision Pro customers. The mixed reality headset can become uncomfortable to wear after an extended period of use. Apple recommends taking breaks regularly during use to avoid discomfort. However, something as simple as watching a feature film from start to finish is best enjoyed without interruption. The same is true for productivity sessions when the motivation strikes.

For that reason, Apple has endorsed the ResMed Apple Vision Pro strap by directly selling it through Apple retail channels.

Kontor Head Strap by ResMed

ResMed says its Kontor Head Strap for Apple Vision Pro delivers a “superb balance of softness and support for extended wear-time.”

The company says it achieves this goal by using a “blend of ResMed-exclusive ultra-premium materials designed to be gentle on the skin and allow for further customization of Apple Vision Pro with the option to utilize six included modular counterweights.”

ResMed is typically known for making sleep and respiratory care medical devices, including CPAP machines and masks for sleep apnea as well as ventilators and breathing devices. While ResMed is arguably an unlikely partner for Apple, the firm may be uniquely positioned to make Apple Vision Pro for comfortable for customers.

“ResMed’s 35 years of expertise in designing headgear and facial interfaces has established it as a market leader in creating innovative, effective, and comfortable solutions for sleep apnea therapy,” the company says. “Building on this experience, the Kontor Head Strap enables extended wear-time benefits for Vision Pro users. ResMed’s products are engineered to deliver exceptional comfort and performance, enhancing users’ experiences across healthcare and technology.”

Prior to the ResMed Kontor Head Strap, Apple began selling a Belkin-branded top head strap add-on for Vision Pro’s Solo Knit Band for $49.95. The Kontor Head Strap, which is a separate band and not an add-on, is priced in the US at $119.95. The six included optional modular counterweights alone should warrant the higher price tag. Expect a 9to5Mac hands-on review in the coming weeks.
