Three local judges had a tough task on Sunday – eat some apple pie and determine which ones were the best.
Matthew Jensen, owner of La Ferme; Liz Thill, owner of Flour and Petal; and TJ Martin from Beverage Wholesalers sampled 12 different pies at the 5th annual Apple Pie Baking Contest at Country Blossom Farm Sunday, Oct. 10.

The contest was open to amateur bakers only and each pie had to be made from scratch. Judges determined winners in five categories, including:

Best tasting traditional apple pie

Prettiest apple pie
-
Best non-traditional apple dessert
-
Best apple pie – ages 12 and younger

Best apple pie – ages 13 to 18
The entrees were judged on overall appearance, crust (color, texture, doneness and flavor), filling (consistency, doneness and flavor) and overall taste.

Each winner won a gift bag, which included apples, gift certificates, baking tools and more. After the winners were announced, all the pies were available to anyone attending the event to sample.
