Apple is reportedly working on a new entry-level MacBook Pro, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman who suggests in this week’s edition of his “Power On” newsletter that the new 2022 machine will likely feature an M2 chip, without the premium ProMotion display found on the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Gurman says he expects the new entry-level MacBook Pro to have similarities to the redesigned M1 Pro and M1 Max models that launched in October last year, with the machines likely not to feature the Touch Bar found on previous generations, instead featuring a Touch ID sensor on one of the keyboard keys, with lesser processors and storage options.

The 2021 M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pro models start off at $1,999 and $2,499 depending on the screen size. Gurman doesn’t speculate on what the rumored entry-level MacBook Pro could cost however, the machine will likely be a replacement to the 2020 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro which is priced at $1,299.

Gurman says “[the new entry-level MacBook Pro will] be one of many Macs in the pipeline with the M2 chip, including refreshes to the 24-inch iMac, entry-level Mac mini and revamped MacBook Air.”

Apple is expected to replace the 27-inch iMac with a new “iMac Pro” later this year, likely featuring the same design as the 2021 24-inch iMac that launched last April. It had been rumored that the new “iMac Pro” could launch as soon as spring however, it is now expected that only one new Mac will make an appearance at Apple’s rumored March 8 keynote, which could be a redesigned Mac mini with the latest Apple silicon chips.
