Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said he has heard that Apple is working on a new M3 version of the iMac which is reportedly in development – though it isn’t expected to launch anytime before the end of 2023.
In this week’s latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Gurman says he has been told the new machine is already in testing, adding that he still believes “an iMac Pro is coming. It just won’t be anytime soon.”
Currently, there is no word on what an M3 chip could bring or any other upgrades a new iMac could offer, but the titbit comes after it was reported last month following the launch of the Mac Studio and Studio Display that Apple has “no plans to release a larger-screen iMac in the near future,” squashing hopes Apple would unveil a new model with a screen larger than 24-inches.
“Since then, I’ve heard that the M2 chips aren’t the only one in testing within Apple. And if you’re waiting for a new iMac, i’m hearing an M3 version of that desktop is already in the works – though I imagine it won’t launch until the end of next year at the earliest,” said Gurman. “Also, for those asking, I still think an iMac Pro is coming. It just won’t be anytime soon.”
Respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in March that he expects Apple to launch a new iMac Pro and Mac Pro in 2023 – though again, no specifics about the rumored new machines were shared.
