Apple restarts its developer beta program for 2025

Examples of Apple Intelligence at work.

Apple has moved on to its second round of developer betas, issuing fresh builds of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, macOS 15.3, tvOS 18.3, watchOS 11.3, and visionOS 2.3.

The second round of betas for iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, macOS 15.3, tvOS 18.3, watchOS 11.3, and visionOS 2.2 follow after the first round, which landed on December 16.

The second iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 developer betas share build number 22D5040d, replacing 22D5034e, the first build. The second macOS Sequoia 15.3 build is 24D5040f, up from 24D5034.

The second tvOS 18.3 build is 22K5540e, the second watchOS 11.3 build is 22S5540e, and the second visionOS 2.3 build is 22N5881d.

While the full breadth of Apple’s changes in this beta generation isn’t known, we can be sure that there are more Apple Intelligence changes inbound at some point. This has, so far, manifested in Genmoji being added to macOS Sequoia 15,3, but with few major changes visible in the first beta.

Official release notes for the first build mentioned a fix for Genmoji when a personalized image may not generate unless a different person is selected first. There was also a fix for the Writing Tools API, used by third-party apps.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto “mission-critical” or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.
