Apple Says iPhone 13 Pink Screen Woes Are Due To Software Bug

Apple has ruled out hardware defects for iPhone 13 pink screen issues, which means a replacement is impossible. But some users claim they got one.

Over the past few months, multiple iPhone 13 users have reported coming across a weird pink screen issue, but Apple has ruled out any hardware defect and is blaming software bugs for the problem. However, this isn’t the first time that pink screen issues have given nightmares to owners of pricey Apple phones. A quick look at Apple’s official forum and Reddit suggest that iPhone 12 users have also faced similar pink screen woes.

In the case of the iPhone 12 series phones, users noticed a brief pink flash across the phone’s screen. In some cases, only scattered small clumps of pixels or a specific region of the screen went pink. Apple’s support executives advised users to take steps ranging from performing a restart and getting the latest firmware version to seeking in-store help if the issue persists. In fact, M1 Mac users have also complained about the “pink square” issue in the past.

It appears that a similar issue is plaguing iPhone 13 users as well, but Apple puts the blame squarely on software issues. And in doing so, Apple effectively rules out any hardware issues, which means affected users can’t return their iPhone 13 series phone and get a new replacement unit. One user complained about his iPhone 13 Pro’s screen flashing pink on the Apple Discussions forum. Reddit also has a ton of discussion over the issue, which can arise out of the blue while playing games, opening the Snapchat camera, switching between apps, or just randomly while charging. However, per MyDrivers, Apple has clarified that the pink screen issue affecting iPhone 13 series phones is due to software issues and not hardware defects.

However, it appears that the problem has been handled differently by Apple support for different customers. Some users mention that they got a replacement unit. Others were not as lucky, though. Per some comments and threads, Apple support advised the affected iPhone 13 users to restart their phones and update to the latest iOS build. Updating to iOS 15.2 solves the pink screen restart issue for some users.

Interestingly, the problem manifests in different ways too. In some cases, the screen goes totally pink. For others, on-screen elements such as battery life and time are visible in white at the top and bottom. A few users report that their iPhone only briefly had the pink screen and returned to normal, but in some cases, it kicked off a restart cycle. App compatibility issues are being cited as one of the reasons. And in case a software update doesn’t solve the pink screen issue, users are advised to back up their data and perform a clean reset.

In addition, Apple has ruled out hardware defects for iPad Mini 6 users, reporting an odd jelly-scroll issue. However, Apple has yet to issue an official statement regarding the iPhone 13 pink screen issue for users based outside the Chinese market. This story will be updated as soon as the company acknowledges it and promises a fix.
