Apple Still Hasn’t Fixed Its iPhone 13 Noise Cancellation Bug

The latest Apple iPhone 13 series seems to lack noise cancellation for voice calls and the issue is not resolved with the latest iOS update.

The new Apple iPhone 13 seems to lack the Phone Noise Cancellation feature and the issue has not been fixed for months. Apple launched the latest iPhone 13 series on September 14, 2021. The Cupertino-based tech giant also revealed its new iOS 15 for iPhone users around the same time. However, the iPhone 13 series seemed to face some bugs immediately after the launch, including improper alignment on applications like Instagram, applications not being able to use higher refresh rates on the Pro models, and more.

To fix all the bugs with iOS 15, Apple rushed the iOS 15.0.1 and iOS 15.0.2 updates, followed by iOS 15.1. These updates fixed quite a lot of issues with the latest iPhone series, including a zero-day vulnerability. Currently, Apple is rolling out the iOS 15.2 stable build for iPhone users. However, even with the latest version, the company seems to have missed a glitch that has been present on the iPhone 13 since its launch.

On December 24, 2021, a Reddit user posted that the iPhone 13 does not have the option to enable Phone Noise Cancellation. However, the feature has been available on all the recent iPhones, including the iPhone XS, the iPhone 11 series, and the iPhone 12 series. While the feature reduces ambient noise when a user talks on a voice call directly from the smartphone, its absence could result in the iPhone picking up unwanted noises from the background, resulting in poor voice quality during calls. On older devices, the feature is available with the same name in the Accessibility menu, under Audio/Visual.

Apparently, Apple knows about the missing Phone Noise Cancellation feature and is working to provide a solution, as revealed by the Reddit user in an update on the same post. Another user dagocarlito posts that the iPhone 13 did not have noise cancellation since launch and it seems to be a glitch with the iOS 15. Most recently, a report by 9To5Mac confirms that the Phone Noise Cancellation feature is missing from the iPhone 13. Notably, Apple has launched two iOS updates since the launch of iPhone 13, i.e. iOS 15.1 and the more recent iOS 15.2, and neither of the updates has resolved the issue.

Apparently, the missing Phone Noise Cancellation feature has been pointed out earlier by a user rpwils2 on the Apple Community Forum back in October 2021. In the thread, the user wrote about facing difficulty in finding the toggle to switch off the noise cancellation feature as the user thought that it was hampering the voice transmission during FaceTime sessions on iPhone. However, when the community post gained some traction, other users pointed out that the iPhone 13 series lacks the Phone Noise Cancellation feature. As of now, Apple iPhone 13 users can activate the Voice Isolation feature while on a call through the Control Center for better audio quality and wait for an iOS update that fixes the issue.
