Apple To Bring ‘Major iPad Pro Revamp’ In 2024

Apple’s 2024 iPad Pro lineup will reportedly include a revamped design and OLED displays, but the upcoming 2023 lineup may not have too many changes.

Apple‘s 2024 iPad Pro lineup will reportedly include a “major revamp,” including a new design and OLED displays. The report comes a month after Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO and well-known tipster Ross Young claimed that Apple is looking to use OLED displays in some of its iPads and MacBooks in 2024. Apple currently uses OLED displays only for its mainstream iPhones and Apple Watches, while most MacBooks and iPads, as well as the iPhone SE 3, still ship with LCD or mini-LED screens.

In the latest installment of his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman claimed that Apple’s 2023 iPad lineup will not bring many new changes over the existing models. Instead, the company is planning a “major revamp” to its tablet lineup next year, when the iPad Pro will get “an updated design,” thanks to the addition of a glass back to possibly facilitate MagSafe charging. Gurman also reiterated long-standing rumors that the 2024 iPad Pro will ship with OLED screens — a claim that has been repeated by multiple reliable sources over the past few weeks.

2024 iPad Pros Could Bring Major Changes

As for the 2023 iPad lineup, Gurman said that he doesn’t expect “any major updates” to the entry-level iPad, iPad mini and iPad Air. According to him, the iPad Pro 2023 will also be more of an iterative upgrade than a revolutionary one, as it “for sure isn’t getting anything of note this year.” While Gurman didn’t say it in as many words, the new iPad Pros are still likely to see a chip upgrade that should help them outperform the last-gen models. However, the lack of substantiative upgrades in terms of design and features is likely to persuade some people not to upgrade to this year’s models and wait for 2024 instead.

Apple’s iPad Pro lineup has seen largely iterative updates over the past few years, as the company focused on software features rather than hardware components. The last time the iPad Pro saw a major design overhaul was in 2018, when the Home button was removed in favor of cleaner bezels on all four sides. That year’s iPad Pros also came with squared edges and curved screen corners, giving them a distinct look when compared to their predecessors.

While this year’s iPad lineup may not include many new features, Apple is said to be working on a slew of changes for its future iPads. The company is said to be working on a folding iPad with a 10-inch screen to replace the 8.3-inch iPad Mini. However, the folding iPad Pro may not come any time soon, with reports suggesting that it is unlikely to launch before 2027.
