Apple TV+ and Tom Hanks are making a sequel to hit film

One of the first movies ever on Apple TV+ was also among the service’s earliest high profile debuts. Greyhound stars and was written by Tom Hanks, earned an Academy Award nomination, and now it’s getting a sequel on Apple TV+. Here are the first details.

Greyhound sequel reassembles original creative team

Today Deadline reports that a Greyhound sequel at Apple TV+ is reassembling the creative team behind the original.

Tom Hanks is returning to star and wrote the sequel’s script, and Greyhound’s director Aaron Schneider and producer Gary Goetzman are returning too.

Per the report, “Talks are in process with key cast from the first movie to reprise their roles. This includes Stephen Graham, who is coming off rave reviews for Netflix hit Adolescence.”

Shooting is scheduled to begin in Sydney, Australia in January 2026. This likely means the film won’t hit Apple TV+ until end of 2026 at the soonest, and possibly later.

As for the plot, Deadline says: “We understand the next chapter in the Greyhound saga will follow Krause and the Greyhound crew from the beaches of Normandy to the ocean in the Pacific as they help turn the tide of the war.”

If you missed the original Greyhound film, here’s Apple’s summary and the trailer:

Tom Hanks stars as a longtime Navy veteran who, as a first-time captain, is tasked with protecting a convoy of 37 ships carrying thousands of soldiers and much-needed supplies across the treacherous waters of the Atlantic during World War II. For five days with no air cover, the captain and his small force of three escort ships must make their way through an area of the ocean known as “the Black Pit,” battling Nazi U-boats while protecting their invaluable ships and soldiers. “Greyhound” is inspired by events during the Battle of the Atlantic, which took place in the earliest months of America’s alliance with Great Britain and the Allied Forces.
