Apple has been slowly opening up its services to consumers outside of the Apple ecosystem over the last few years. You can now use Apple Music on your Android phone, and with future updates, you can see your iCloud photos on your Windows 11 laptop. Apple had even opened the Apple TV app to Android TV and Samsung’s Tizen OS for TV platforms. However, rumours now suggest that Apple is planning to release the Apple TV app for Android phones.

Based on a tip from ShrimpApplePro, it is said that Apple is planning to release the Apple TV app for Android smartphones. The project is already under development and Apple is planning to release it soon. Although no specific timeline for this has been mentioned, it is likely that Apple could announce the same at the next WWDC event.

Apple TV app coming to Android

The Apple TV app hosts the Apple TV+ subscription, which in turn allows access to all the original content commissioned by Apple. Apple has been lately pushing the Apple TV+ service as an alternative to the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar. Some of the Apple TV+ originals have won awards and accolades at various global platforms.

With an app on Android, Apple could be looking to gain more subscribers, thereby increasing its profits. Apple TV+ is currently available at a price of Rs. 99 per month for Apple users. The platform can be accessed online via the website.

The Apple TV app is also available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Roku and Amazon Fire TV streaming stick. The app is also available on Roku TVs, high-end smart TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony, and Vizio. All TVs running on Google TV and Android TV platforms can also download the Apple TV app. Other than streaming original Apple TV+ content, one can buy or rent TV shows and movies from the iTunes Store.
