The new Apple TV+ trailer for the drama series Five Days at Memorial is just a one-minute preview. But it’s a powerful 60 seconds.

It depicts the desperate struggle in a New Orleans hospital in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest storms to ever hit the U.S.

The trailer features Vera Farmiga as Dr. Anna Pou. She appeals for help when she sees the hospital running low on food and water. Hurricane Katrina has just crippled New Orleans and flood waters are rising.

The series revolves around hospital staff, who had to make life-and-death decisions with lasting repercussions in the five days following the disaster.

Hurricane Katrina made landfall as a Category 5 storm in late August 2005. It caused 1,800 deaths and $125 billion in damage, mostly in and around New Orleans.

Cast members Cherry Jones, Michael Gaston, Robert Pine and Adepero Oduye also appear in the trailer.

The series is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sheri Fink’s 2013 book, Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital.

Show runners John Ridley and Carlton Cuse write and direct the show’s eight episodes.

The Apple ordered the series in September of 2020 and announced the premiere date earlier this month. Five Days at Memorial debuts with three episodes on Friday, August 12. New episodes follow weekly on Fridays through September 16.

Apple TV+ is available for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial period.
