Apple TV+ has been finding more mainstream success of late, fueled by the popularity of hits like Severance and The Studio. But there’s one demographic that, per a new survey, is not tuned in to TV+: teens.
Only 1% of US teens are regular Apple TV+ viewers, per survey
Today Piper Sandler published its 49th semi-annual survey of teens in the US on a variety of topics.
Over 6,000 teens were polled on their preferences and usage habits with technology, entertainment, food, clothing, and more.
Unsurprisingly, iPhone adoption remains high in the US: a whopping 88% currently own iPhones.
But what’s a bit more surprising is how few teens are watching Apple TV+.
Only 1% of teens said that Apple TV+ is a regular part of their daily video consumption.
That compares to 31% viewership for Netflix and 26% for YouTube.
Daily viewership is a high bar, but the 1% number still seems remarkably low—especially when contrasted with how many teens use iPhones.
Ever since Apple TV+ launched, analysts (and Netflix’s CEO) have wondered why Apple was getting into the streaming business. Could it be a marketing ploy, a way to boost iPhone loyalty?
While we still don’t really have those answers, at least as far as teens are concerned, owning an iPhone and watching Apple TV+ have almost zero overlap.
What do you make of these Apple TV+ viewership numbers for teens? Let us know in the comments.
Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking. You can also watch free in several ways.
