Apple TV+ has three big new releases coming very soon

Apple TV+ has hit its stride this year, finding big success with Severance, The Studio, and Your Friends & Neighbors. But there’s more right around the corner. Here are three big new Apple TV+ releases coming soon.

#1: Murderbot

Murderbot

Apple’s next big sci-fi series is Murderbot, starring Alexander Skarsgård. The show offers serious franchise potential, since it’s based on a lengthy book series.

Unlike lots of sci-fi fare, it also doesn’t take itself too seriously—it’s a thriller/comedy.

Murderbot’s Apple TV+ debut is coming on Friday, May 16. It will drop two episodes to start, followed by weekly releases through July 11.

Here’s Apple’s plot summary:

Based on Martha Wells’ bestselling Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series “The Murderbot Diaries,” “Murderbot” is a sci-fi thriller/comedy about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. Played by Skarsgård, Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

This first season of Murderbot is based entirely on the first book in Martha Wells’ series, All Systems Red.

You can get a sneak peek by picking up the book on Apple Books (Ebook / Audiobook) or Amazon (Kindle / Paperback).

#2: Fountain of Youth

Fountain of Youth

The Indiana Jones franchise has fallen on hard times, but Apple TV+ has its own spin coming.

Fountain of Youth is a new movie that takes clear inspiration from series like Indiana Jones, National Treasure, and more recently Uncharted. It stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman and was directed by Guy Ritchie.

Fountain of Youth premieres directly on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 23—no theatrical release is happening.

Here’s Apple’s movie summary:

“Fountain of Youth” follows two estranged siblings (John Krasinski and Academy Award winner Natalie Portman) who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives … and possibly lead to immortality.

This time last year, movies looked like a weak point for Apple after multiple box office disappointments. But the transition to more direct-to-streaming films, like The Gorge and Wolfs, seems to have proven successful.

Fountain of Youth very much looks like it was made for the big screen, but Apple TV+ subscribers will get to enjoy it from home instead.

#3: Stick

Ted Lasso season 4 is coming, but Apple TV+ hopes it has another Lasso-like feel-good show on its hands with Stick.

Owen Wilson stars in the new golf comedy that’s striking all the same notes as the beloved Jason Sudeikis hit.

Stick hits Apple TV+ on Wednesday, June 4 with three episodes, then weekly new releases through July 23.

Here’s Apple’s series summary:

Owen Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After the collapse of his marriage and getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets, and future, entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager). “Stick” is a heartfelt, feel-good sports comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.

Ted Lasso’s mainstream success isn’t something that’s easy to replicate. And Apple may be trying too hard with this one.

But if all the ingredients come together, Stick could fill the Lasso-sized hole in our hearts.
