Apple customers in Japan can snag a limited-edition AirTag as part of a two-day promotion linked to the Japanese new year.

Customers visiting apple.com/jp can receive a gift card when they purchase certain Apple products over a 48-hour period of Monday, January 2 to Tuesday, January 3 2023.

If you buy an iPhone SE, for instance, you’ll receive an 8,000-yen gift card. The same applies if you buy an Apple Watch SE or iPad Air.

Interestingly, there’s also a gift card available on more affordable purchases such as the Apple Pencil second generation. The card value is lower here, unsurprisingly, but is still worth having: 4,000 yen.

Some purchases attract more, for instance, a Mac gets a gift card worth up to 32,000 yen, though this top value is restricted to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. A 24-inch iMac will get you a 24,000-yen gift card.

But the cutest additional benefit is restricted to purchasers of the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 and iPhone SE. The first 30,000 buyers of one of these phones will, in addition to the 8,000-yen gift card, get a special-edition AirTag engraved with a rabbit, to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

This rabbit is very cute, winking at you in a way that almost says, “Yes, you, you’re one in 30,000.” There’s a knowing feistiness to this little long-eared creature which I find almost irresistible.

As you can imagine, there are terms and conditions, so, for instance, if you buy the iPhone through the Apple Store app, you won’t qualify for the little AirTag critter.

There are other purchases which earn the gift cards: up to 12,000 yen for AirPods (both second and third generation), AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Or up to 8,000 yen for Beats headphones including Studio3 Wirless, Powerbeats Pro, Fit Pro, Studio Buds and more.

You can also earn a gift card, again, up to 8,000-yen value, for other accessories like MagSafe charging pads, Magic Keyboards and Smart Keyboard Folios.

Apple points out that the offer is limited to stock availability which may run out before the two-day event is even over. No kidding.

Apple has a talent for making limited-edition products for special events and my only gripe is that there aren’t more of them.
