Apple Watch Series 7
Apple plans to hold its next big launch even on September 7 according to Bloomberg industry commentator Mark Gurman.
He cites “people with knowledge of the matter” as the source.
That the big Apple launch sits in September should surprise no-one, but the 7th day of the month is a little earlier than the event typically lands — by roughly a week.
Apple is expected to launch the next generation of iPhones at the event, as well as the Apple Watch Series 8 family. But what can you expect from it?
The Apple Watch Series 8 is rumored to have a slightly larger display, a five per cent increase bumping up its inch count closer to two inches. That, of course, relates to the larger version of the watch.
Apple is also expected to use a new Apple S8 processor, although leaks suggest a dramatic change in power is not on the cards.
A body temperature sensor may be the big new feature explored at Apple’s launch event. It has been rumored multiple times, and TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims it was originally intended for the Apple Watch Series 7, but failed to stack up to expectations in time.
The difficulties here reportedly hinge on the issue of accurately measuring body temperature when the sensor can only sit on the wrist, and will naturally be significantly affected by ambient temperatures.
Apple is expected to use a two-pole temperature sensor, one measuring skin temperature, the other ambient temperature. The Apple Watch Series 8 will then use an algorithm to compensate for external temperature changes — and at times will relay a different figure than the inner sensor actually detects. A patent for such a system was granted recently in August 2022.
We may also see an Apple Watch Series 8 Pro, which reportedly has a larger screen and longer battery life. It’s not clear whether the body temperature feature will be Pro exclusive, but it may be more useful as an indicator of when you are getting ill or for menstrual cycle tracking, rather than during exercise.
