Apple Watches Infringe 2 EKG Patents, US Trade Commission Rules


The US International Trade Commission Thursday has ruled that Apple Inc. infringed two patents for wearable heart-rate monitoring devices through sales of its Apple Watch products.

The ITC determination marks a win for patent owner AliveCor Inc. which has also accused Apple of anticompetitive behavior in a federal case in Northern California that’s set to go to trial in 2024.

AliveCor’s CEO Priya Abani called the ruling a win for consumers and for “scores of others whose innovations are at risk of being suppressed by a Goliath like Apple.”
