The latest round of rumors support earlier rumors that Apple will be releasing new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros with mini-LED displays this fall. Digitimes reports that monthly shipments could reach 600-800,000 monthly shipments from August to November. Apple’s MacBook Pro will also provide an enhanced M1chip, a reported design change, drop the Touch Bar and add more ports that may included microSD, HMDI and new MagSafe.
On Sunday Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman posted his latest ‘Power On’ newsletter wherein he noted that Apple’s engineers have told him that the company doesn’t have a strong living room strategy. It would appear that a Apple TV Pro model isn’t on the table as other rumors have suggested. With that said, the rumored Apple TV+HomePod-styled device still appears to still be on target for 2023.
Why doesn’t Apple just take the leap into simply entering the HDTV market?
In December 2013 Apple’s CEO was interviewed by NBC’s Brian Williams about TV being of great interest to Apple. He repeated that message with Charlie Rose in 2014 and stated that “TV viewing technology is stuck back in the 70s.”
Yet with Apple TV, Apple still believes in dragging series out weekly like TV of old instead of allowing fans to binge-watch shows like Netflix does. This weekend I watched the Netflix series “Hit and Run.” I was able to watch all nine episodes on Saturday. Why oh why does Apple drag out series like shows from the 60s?
Why doesn’t Apple just bite the bullet and make high-end TVs? The anticipation of what Apple could do for TV was so high back in the 2013-2014 time frame, and Apple’s current TV box is so far from that hope.
In the end, it’s understandable that Apple TV engineers have told Mark Gurman that there isn’t much internal optimism. Let’s hope that changes.
Lastly, Apple is preparing to release Apple Watch 7 and newly designed AirPods this fall. Apple Watch is likely to introduce a larger battery due to the adoption of a double-sided system-in-package (SiP).
We’re now entering a new product cycle and rumors are bound to accelerate in the coming days and weeks ahead.
