Profits at Apple more than doubled in the first three months of 2021, as sales of all its flagship products soared. Demand for the company’s biggest earner, the iPhone, was boosted by its latest model, which can be used on 5G mobile networks. Apple also signalled for the first time that its sales would be affected in the coming months by the global shortage of semiconductor microchips. Also today, workers at a Renault factory in western France continue their strike over the potential sale of their plant.
