Apple’s proposed surveillance tech could be emulated elsewhere


    Apple’s announcement in August that the iPhones of people in the US would be scanned automatically for images of child sexual abuse provoked controversy from the start.

     Apple’s proposed system, which uses a technique called client-side scanning (CSS), has become a telling example of an unsound idea which initially might look fine, even laudable.
