Apple School Manager and Apple Business Manager will both receive integration support with Google Workspace identity services later in 2022, allowing for easy sign-in and directory sync features.

The new integration will allow IT teams who rely on Google Workspace Identity services to implement directory sync and federated authentication in the two Apple platforms, the iPhone maker announced on Tuesday.

With the directory sync feature, user records and managed Apple IDs will be created automatically and users will be able to sign in to their Managed Apple ID with their Google Workspace account. That will allow for a seamless sign-in process on apps like Pages, FaceTime, and more.

Currently, Apple’s manager services integrate with Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory. With the new Google integration, Apple’s services are expanding to include even more IT setups.

The Google Workspace identity support was announced alongside new education features and programs on Tuesday, including a Learning Coach program that will help educators use devices like the iPhone, Mac, and iPad in their day-to-day workflows.

Apple says the Google Workspace integration for Apple School Manager will arrive in the spring, but it isn’t clear if the same is true for Apple Business Manager.
