ASUS has recently announced two more models to its TUF Gaming A18 series, the FA808UM-IS74 and the FA808UP-NS74. Both laptops are great, but the main difference between the two comes from the display and graphics cards, where one really stands out.
Both models run on the same AMD Ryzen 7 260 Processor, with a base speed of 3.8GHz and a large 24MB cache. This processor can speed up to 5.1GHz when needed and includes an AMD XDNA NPU that can handle up to 16 TOPS for AI tasks. This means you can multitask and even have programs running while gaming with few to no issues. With eight cores and sixteen threads, the laptops are more than capable of playing today’s demanding games.
These two A18 models also include 16GB of DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM memory, spread across two slots. This amount of RAM is enough for most gaming needs, though some users might want to upgrade to 32GB for better future performance and multitasking. The 5600MHz speed just means faster data transfer than slower DDR5 setups, which helps the system run more smoothly.
For storage, both laptops have a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, which means quick boot times and fast loading for games and applications. This high-speed storage makes a big difference in overall performance because it reduces load times and keeps gameplay responsive.
The biggest difference between the two models is the graphics card. The FA808UM-IS74 comes with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, while the FA808UP-NS74 has the more powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. This basically means the 5070 will deliver better performance, with higher frame rates and possibly better ray tracing effects than the 5060. Both GPUs can run modern games on high settings, but the 5070 will handle higher resolutions, faster refresh rates, and more intense visual effects more smoothly.
The display is another spot where the two models differ. The FA808UM-IS74 has an 18-inch FHD+ (1920 x 1200) screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. The FA808UP-NS74, however, steps up with an 18-inch 2.5K (2560 x 1600) display and a much faster 240Hz refresh rate.
The higher refresh rate on the FA808UP-NS74 means smoother motion in games, while the 2.5K resolution provides sharper and more detailed visuals. This is the most significant difference, and anyone who cares about high-quality graphics will notice the difference between these two screens.
Both laptops have similar sets of ports, including an RJ45 LAN port for wired internet, a USB 4 Type-C port with DisplayPort support and speeds up to 40 Gbps, a USB 2.0 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (which supports DisplayPort, power delivery, and G-SYNC on the FA808UP-NS74), and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports. The USB 4 port means extremely fast data transfers with compatible devices.
These are pretty impressive laptops, but the price matches the quality. The FA808UM-IS74 will go for $1,599.99 and release in August this year, while the better FA808UP-NS74 will release in July and cost $1,799.99. Both will be available on the official website and from third-party retailers.
