AT&T’s First Responder Plan Celebrates 2025 With A Price Hike

First responders are incredibly important to society, rushing to scenes where people are in danger and where a minute or two could be a matter of life or death. That’s why it isn’t surprising that AT&T has FirstNet, a service specifically designed to give first responders priority service across the country.

Unfortunately, as we’re still celebrating as we usher in 2025, AT&T has decided that there’s no better time for them to introduce a price hike for FirstNet than right now. It’s not a great way to start off the year, though the price hike is going to take effect in about two weeks.

AT&T’s FirstNet Service Takes On A $3 Price Hike To Start Off 2025

You might not have heard of it if you’re not a first responder, but AT&T has a special plan tailored to people in that part of the workforce, and it provides them with high-priority service. That’s something that is definitely useful when a delay of a minute or two could mean something bad happening.

When 2024 ended, a FirstNet plan cost $45 each month. Now, just two days into 2025, it is clear that a FirstNet Plan is soon going to cost $48 per month, which marks a $3 price hike. That’s definitely not a great way for first responders to start the year—it calls to mind T-Mobile lowering discounts for first responders and others.

The Price Hike Takes Effect On January 15th

FirstNet has detailed more about this price hike on this webpage, but the most important piece of information, if you’re a first responder using the service, is that it is only going to take effect starting on January 15th. That’s merely two weeks from now, but should be enough time to brace for the permanent $3 increase.

However, it is important to keep in mind that this price hike is only being applied to users who have been using FirstNet for nine months or more. That means that if you first activated the service on or after April 15th, 2024, you’ll only have to deal with the price hike once you’ve hit that nine-month mark.

FirstNet Offers High-Priority Mobile Service To First Responders Across The US

In response to this price hike, a common argument that you might see on social media platforms, such as Reddit, is that you still get more than enough value for that $3 increase not to be a big deal. Whether that might be valid or not, I do think it is equally valid for subscribers who are used to a specific price to get upset when that price goes up.

Anyway, I’ll let you decide for yourself by talking about some of the perks that first responders get on FirstNet. Most important is what they call First Priority. This means that devices on the service are prioritized when it comes to accessing the network. Plus, pairing that with unlimited high-speed data means that first responders will essentially always stay connected. That is, admittedly, a lot of value.

The plan also offers unlimited talk and text in the US, several US territories, Canada, and Mexico; and unlimited text to over 200 countries. Plus, the FirstNet and Family perk lets your family members save 25% on their AT&T lines.
