Earlier reports suggested that the OnePlus Open 2 would be a killer phone with the best of specifications. The details were largely based on leaks and official confirmations about the Oppo Find N5. It was expected to share its design and hardware with the upcoming foldable, much like the first OnePlus Open was a rebranded Oppo Find N3.
However, OnePlus has now officially confirmed that it will not release a new foldable in 2025. In fact, the company is stepping back from the foldable market for now in a move that’s supposedly temporary.
OnePlus says no foldables in 2025
OnePlus’ Product Manager, Vale Gu, has recently released a surprising post on the community’s platform. In the announcement, Vale addresses the foldable strategy for 2025 and confirms that OnePlus will not release a new foldable this year.

With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year.While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time.

The decision is part of a “recalibration” rather than a step back, and the company is focusing on aligning with its “Never Settle” philosophy while Oppo leads the foldable segment with the Find N5.
Speaking of, the China-exclusive phone is supposed to launch on February 20, just days away from now. Spec-wise, it’s rumored to pack a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a triple Hasselblad camera setup with a periscope lens, and a nearly 6000mAh battery that’s quite big for a foldable.
OnePlus is working on exciting non-foldables
OnePlus may not be in a rush to release the Open 2 phone, but they reassure users that you will continue receiving software updates, security patches, and after-sales support. As expected, that’s not enough to satisfy fans, who aren’t taking the news lightly.
OnePlus set high standards with the original OnePlus Open, even bagging the Best foldable of 2023 award. Many were eagerly expecting a follow-up that would address shortcomings in the first model. Such as the absence of wireless charging, which the Open 2 would’ve addressed with its speculated 50W wireless charging speed.
On the non-foldable side, OnePlus has back-to-back releases in store for the future. The OnePlus 13 Mini or 13T should get here by April 2025, while the OnePlus 14 series is lined up for October, followed by the Ace 6 and Ace 6 Pro in November. arriving earlier than last year’s Ace 5 series. The Ace 5s and Ace 5V.
If you’re outside China, it’s highly likely that OnePlus will rebrand some of these phones, with the Ace 14R replacing the Ace 6. It may not be the releases you hoped for, but innovation doesn’t always follow a straight path. Sometimes, it bends, it folds, and then pauses to gather momentum. Hopefully, the wait is worth it for the Open 2 phone.
