BeatBot AquaSense 2 Ultra Review: A Step Up!

Want a pool robot that actually works? The BeatBot AquaSense 2 Ultra may seem expensive, but we think it’s well worth the investment, especially for larger pools. I put the cleaner through its paces and was incredibly impressed. There were still a few sticking points from our last review of its predecessor but a massive leap in design and specs.

Fresh off the CES stage

Before diving into the review, it’s worth noting that BeatBot just made a huge splash at CES 2025. Their new AquaSense 2 Series took home an impressive 10 awards, including “Best of CES.” Impressive for a company quickly making ripples in home-pool tech.

The full lineup includes three models: the base AquaSense 2 ($1,499), the AquaSense 2 Pro ($2,499), and our review unit, the top-of-the-line AquaSense 2 Ultra ($3,450). All three hit the market on February 10th.

While all models handle floor, wall, and waterline cleaning with a powerful 5500 GPH suction, the Pro version boasts a massive 13,400mAh battery for up to 11 hours of cleaning In this review we’re focusing on the Ultra, the world’s first AI-powered 5-in-1 cleaner with all the bells and whistles.

The unboxing experience

Right away, the AquaSense 2 Ultra beats its predecessors in the packaging game. Now you get a neat package with numbered compartments (1, 2, 3), labeled and illustrated for each part. No more playing “what goes where” when you need to pack it up again.

Inside, you’ll find the AquaSense robot, charge dock, storage caddy/rain cover (that’s actually useful!), clarifying agent, and the usual paper stuff with a comprehensive use and setup guide. The robot build quality is of the highest quality and looks fantastic; so fantastic that you won’t need to hide it when friends come over.

How it’s built

This thing is heavy. At 26.5 pounds, it feels solid. The plastic body is tough but looks good with its matte finish. Nothing about it screams “cheap.”

The filter system is actually pretty clever. It uses what BeatBot calls QuadFlow technology, basically a super-fine filter that catches everything from tiny sand to big leaves. It is a top-load design meaning you can access it from the top, so you don’t have to flip the whole robot over just to empty it.

The robot has dual motors to drive it around and a separate pump that moves a ton of water. The brushes are nice and wide, and with four-wheel drive, it climbs walls and handles stairs without drama.

Setting it up

Getting started is crazy simple. The app (which works on iPhone and Android) walks you through everything step by step. The first time you connect, it updates automatically—no waiting around or fussing with settings.

It connects via WiFi or Bluetooth, and you can even tell Alexa or Google to start cleaning your pool. Living in the future has its perks!

How it cleans

This is where this pool robot really shines. It has a 4K underwater camera and smart AI that helps it see and avoid obstacles. No more rescuing a stuck robot!

The same procedure applies, once the cleaning mode begins, it will slowly start filling itself with water, submerging to the bottom of your pool. It’s a trick that never gets old and I can watch time and time again.

HybridSense™ AI – The brains behind the operation

Let’s talk about what really sets the AquaSense 2 Ultra apart – its HybridSense™ AI Pool Mapping system. You might think, ‘Oh, Ai is in pool cleaners now?’ Well, this isn’t just some marketing hype; it’s a game-changer for how pool robots work.

The Ultra combines three different technologies to “see” your pool: a 4K underwater camera, infrared sensors, and ultrasonic technology. It’s like giving the robot superhuman senses, an army-grade submersible! While other pool cleaners might rely on bumping into things to figure out where they are, this one maps your pool in real-time.

I watched it work, and it’s pretty impressive. The robot methodically scans your pool during its first cleaning cycle, building a detailed 3D map. You can actually see this map develop in the app as it cleans if you have wifi connected during the clean. After that initial scan, it gets smarter with each cleaning, refining its understanding of your specific pool’s layout.

The AI doesn’t just help with navigation – it identifies different types of debris and adjusts its cleaning approach accordingly. Found a patch of fine sand? It’ll slow down and increase suction. Spotted some leaves? It will make sure to pick those up before they sink and stain the floor.

My own pool is small and has no deep end and it probably seemed like a puddle to this robot given its capabilities. But rather than overkill, the Ultra actually adjusted well to the small space, cleaning thoroughly without wasting time on redundant passes.

The Smart Surface Parking feature is another neat AI trick. When the robot finishes cleaning, it doesn’t just stop randomly in the pool, it intelligently returns to the edge for easy retrieval. No more fishing around with a pole or jumping in to grab it.

The app lets you view cleaning coverage maps, showing exactly which areas were cleaned and for how long. Over time, it even generates cleaning reports with suggestions for optimizing your pool maintenance schedule based on actual data from your specific pool. Pretty smart stuff for what’s essentially a vacuum on wheels.

It moves super smoothly across the floor and up walls (up to 90 degrees), which is satisfying to watch. It does take a moment longer to sink than the old model, but that’s a small price to pay for how well it cleans.

The mapping though is seriously impressive. It actually learns your pool’s shape and cleans in a logical pattern instead of bumping around randomly. It handles pools up to 1,291 square feet and depths from 1.6 to 9.8 feet. Comparing this model to the BeatBot AquaSense Pro, there seemed to be a drastic improvement in terms of its motion and its thinking process.

And quiet? At just 55dB, you’ll barely notice it’s working. You can have a normal conversation right next to the pool while it cleans.

During testing, I never once had to jump in. It just kept going, picking up dirt and debris without stopping. That’s rare for a pool robot; most need babysitting, especially around steps or ladders.

I’d say there were a few sticking points for me with this and both follow on from our test of its other unit. Wifi is ideally needed around the pool so during testing there was no way I could see through the app how it was doing, what stage it was on or any other macro-updates like that. The second was that at the end of the cycle when it was cleaning the pool surface, at the 286th minute, I ended up finishing the cycle manually by pulling out the robot. That was the only time I intervened, was to stop it.

A few tests with a friend’s pool who had wifi around his pool area, the updates were in real time. Time I get some boosters in my garden!

Battery life

The battery lasts about 3.5 hours, which is plenty for most home pools. A standard pool (about 10 × 5m) takes around 2 hours to clean. Oh, and it only uses 120W of power, so it won’t spike your electric bill for all those who like to keep a cap on their devices.

When it’s done, charging takes about 3 hours. Reasonable for something that works this hard.

Smart stuff

The app lets you pick different cleaning modes. Just the floor, just the walls, just the waterline, or everything. You can schedule different cleaning routines for different days, which is perfect for keeping your pool clean with zero effort.

You also get cleaning updates, remote control options, and maintenance reminders. The robot can even update itself over time, getting smarter as BeatBot improves the software.

What could be better?

No robot is perfect. This one takes a bit too long to sink when you first put it in the pool, a little slower than our last review.

As mentioned above, the wifi/app integration is neat, but without wifi, it feels like you are waiting for the cycle to finish to then take it back into wifi coverage to see how well it mapped etc.

Bottom line

Overall, I’d say that the BeatBot AquaSense 2 Ultra is a pool owner’s dream. It’s incredibly well-built, smart, and actually does what it promises, cleans your pool without you having to think about it.

At $3,450, it may seem expensive, but we think it’s well worth the investment, especially for larger pools. The AI enhancements and the new side brushes are all incredible leaps. If you hate skimming your pool or you’re tired of lesser robots that get stuck or miss spots, this one’s worth saving up for. The 2-year warranty helps ease the pain of that price tag a bit.
