Canon just launched a new iPhone app for multi-cam livestreaming

Canon just launched a brand new iPhone and iPad app called Live Switcher Mobile, and it aims to make multi-cam livestreaming easier than ever.

Live Switcher Mobile upgrades livestreaming with multi-cam support

From Canon’s announcement post:

With the increase in video content on social media, there has been a growing demand for livestreaming video content, such as cooking, gaming, and product reviews in which content creators can simultaneously communicate with the viewers. The “Live Switcher Mobile” app meets this demand by providing multi-camera switching between up to three devices, such as iPads or iPhones, all connected under the same Wi-Fi network. Simply by downloading the app to an iPhone or iPad acting as a camera, users can broadcast the footage through a livestream platform of their choosing.

Live Switcher Mobile has several features built in that seem especially geared toward livestreaming.

  • you can have camera switches set on a timed delay, so they feel more natural
  • text and graphics can be added to the screen from inside the app
  • direct integration with YouTube and Facebook is available

You can download the app from the App Store.

Canon has made it available free with most functionality enabled, but if you’re going to use the app for any of your actual streams, you’ll almost certainly want the $17.99 monthly subscription that hides ads, hides the watermark, and more.

9to5Mac’s Take

Apple launched Final Cut Camera just a few months ago to enable free multi-cam functionality for its devices. But Live Switcher Mobile addresses a key niche that Apple doesn’t by catering to livestreamers. This emerging app trend also, perhaps more than ever, makes the iPad’s rear camera feel like a worthwhile addition.
