Celebrating Valentine’s Day in the Little Apple

Figuring out what to do for Valentine’s Day might seem difficult in a small town like Manhattan, but I was pleasantly surprised when a simple google search gave me so many options.

While I am all for a nice dinner and movie, I wanted to find options that were a little different than a typical Valentine’s date and narrowed it down to my top five picks.

Coming in first for my favorite date idea is Locked Manhattan, an escape room experience where you have one hour to escape the room you are locked in.

This is a great option for people who prefer trying new things and are a bit more on the competitive side. They do not have any Valentine’s Day specials right now, but it is $69 for two people, which is comparable to what you might spend on a nice dinner.

My second pick is Goolsby’s, located on Bluemont Ave. Goolsby’s offers several activities like bowling, a golf simulator and a baseball simulator.

Aside from the activities, Goolsby’s has a full menu of bar food and a beer wall where you pour your own draft beer — if you are of the legal drinking age, of course — but you don’t have to be 21 to enjoy the games and food.

While Valentine’s Day specials have not been released yet, manager George Cartwright said specials will be released soon, so keep an eye out.

If you can’t celebrate on Monday, Feb. 14, Board and Brush might be the place for you.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, Board and Brush is offering a Valentine’s date night pick-your-project workshop. In this workshop, you can create custom DIY woodwork in a step-by-step tutorial.

Board and Brush provides snacks and more while you create your piece, but sign up soon if you are interested because the spots are filling up.

My fourth pick is a more traditional option — sweets from Bourbon and Baker. The business has several specials going on this year, Feb. 10-14.

Specials include desserts like tiramisu for two, cookie boxes and midnight snacks for two that include several treats.

Bourbon and Baker does not have any dinner specials that night, but if you go during happy hour, you might still find some good deals and can enjoy a special dessert after.

My final pick is another classic date option at Nico’s Little Italy. Nico’s is offering a $59.99 three-course meal for two. The three courses include an appetizer, main course and dessert.

Whether you want to spend a special night with a significant other or just tell your friends you love them, any of these options would be great for Valentine’s day.

And please, for the sake of all things good and holy, do not wait until the day before to make your reservations!
