While it’s thought that Samsung’s Unpacked event on February 8th will focus on the launch of its flagship Galaxy S22 smartphones, Samsung may also take the opportunity to announce its new range of premium Galaxy Tab S8 tablets. Consisting of a trio of tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8 series will once again spearhead the segment in terms of specs and indeed, pricing. Judging from the leaked specs, Samsung isn’t playing around this year.
According to WinFuture, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra sits at the top of the pile with its mammoth 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display that sports a 2960 x 1848 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s reported to come in RAM/Storage options of 8/128GB and 12/512GB with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor being the powerplant of choice. Providing the juice is a big 11,200mAh battery with fast charging (possibly 45W), and it’s also said to support wireless DeX and the S Pen. It’s thought that the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will cost around $1,100 depending on the configuration.
The smaller Galaxy Tab S8+ features a 12.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip under the hood with 8/128GB and 8/256 RAM/Storage options. A 10,900mAh battery keeps the lights on, and there is support for the S Pen present.
The smallest of the bunch, the Galaxy S8 tablet has an 11-inch LTPS TFT display with 2500 x 1600 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and be available in the same RAM/Storage configurations as the Tab S8+. The battery is downsized to 8,000mAh on this model.
All three tablets in the Galaxy Tab S8 range are said to launch running Android 12 out of the box, which would be something new for Samsung’s premium tablets. Whilst we expect the Galaxy Tab S8 series to be announced during the February 8th Unpacked event, it may be that Samsung merely teased the devices ahead of launching them properly during MWC 2022, which is still scheduled to be an in-person event at the current time.
