The CMF Phone 1 Is No Longer A Whisper In The Wind; It’s Actually Coming
The CMF Phone 1 is going to be the very first smartphone released by Nothing’s sub-brand, but considering Nothing is a young company that has successfully positioned itself in the smartphone business, CMF shouldn’t have too much of a struggle repeating the feat.
The phone is expected to be a budget device, so it’s not about to clash swords with much bigger devices and that’s probably a good move. It might be easier to find space to disrupt the market at the low end rather than the uber-competitive top of the ladder.
Plus, the CMF Phone 1 looks set to launch with a very “different” design, and that’ll be enough to get eyes on it (whether the unique design is actually useful for users in daily life or not). An official teaser image shows a circular knob in one of the corners of the device. I’ll bet that it’ll be a multi-function dial that might be able to control volume, brightness, zoom, etc. depending on the context.
There’s also an odd screw feature near the other bottom corner of the device, and the consensus is that the screw will be called a Nothing Lock and will allow the device to have specially-built peripherals added to it. What these might be, time will tell. A replaceable back cover also seems agreed upon.
There’s quite a bit of detail regarding some of the specs of this upcoming device. It seems like the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 will be the chip of choice, according to Gadget Bits on X, which for a budget smartphone, isn’t a bad choice to go with.
Another leak from the same source elucidates many other specs, suggesting that the device will have a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display with a fingerprint reader built-in, a 50MP primary camera with OIS and 4K/30 video recording, a 16MP selfie snapper with FHD/30 video recording, and a 5,000 mAh battery. He also says it’ll come with an SD card slot, in case it doesn’t come with enough storage for you out of the box.
Other details include either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and 33W fast charging. The smartphone is expected to launch at about $249 in July, which would be a very aggressive price point for the specs. For now, let’s just wait and see what this unique smartphone might bring to the table.
