Let’s compare a dummy phone and an early case to the iPhone 15 Pro Max
Ahead of Apple’s It’s Glowtime event, there are a few iPhone 16 cases. Here’s what an iPhone 15 Pro Max looks like, inside one of the new accessories.
As is often the case, mock up dummy units trickle out of China-based factories based on leaked schematics. They’re often used by accessory makers to check for compatibility and size prior to the device’s announcement.
We too are usually able to get our hands on them, giving us a great visual representation of the rumors we report on. Now, we have an iPhone 16 Pro Max case to compare it to, as well.
iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro Max case
As we’ve seen, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is to be slightly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s said to expand the screen from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.
The smaller iPhone 16 Pro is also supposed to be 6.3 inches on the diagonal, up from 6.1 inches.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is slightly too small for the new case
Unsurprisingly, slotting our existing large-sized iPhone into the new case it doesn’t quite fit. It’s just slightly smaller on the top and the bottom.
There’s a gap at the top and the bottom
You can easily see the gaps on either end of the phone as it doesn’t fill out the case. You can also see the bottom speaker and microphones holes don’t like up perfectly either.
On the right side, you can see the antenna spot overlaps where the new Capture Button cutout is supposed to be.

The width doesn’t appear too far off and the volume buttons as well as the Action Button line up appropriately. The same goes for the camera bump.
iPhone 16 Pro Max in the new case
When we tried the iPhone 16 Pro Max dummy in the purported iPhone 16 Pro Max case, it easily fits. Everything lines up just as it should.

Since they’re both based off of leaked early schematics from suppliers, this isn’t a surprise.
It was interesting to see how the case handles the Capture Button. As we discussed in our exclusive coverage of the new control, it is capacitive and can’t easily be covered.
The Capture Button is easily accessible to take photos
If a case covered the Capture Button like they do with the side button, volume buttons, or Action Button, the button couldn’t be used. You also couldn’t swipe left or right on it.

We’re excited for Apple’s event, taking place on September 9th where it is rumored to show off not only the new iPhones, but updated Apple Watches and AirPods as well.
