Custard apple pulp recalled after sample reveals salmonella contamination

Vadilal Industries (USA) of Newark, New Jersey, has voluntarily recalled two batches of frozen Custard Apple Pulp because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it received one report of five illnesses and “FDA sampling revealed the presence of salmonella in the product.”

Salmonella is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis,” according to the FDA.

    • The Custard Apple Pulp was sold nationwide in retail stores in 35.27-ounce packets. The product code is FPEP44302, the batch/lot codes are KWHO or KRQO, the UPC is 8901777282168. The pulp has a best before date of September 2023.

People who bought the pulp can return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
