FAQ
When are Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Black Friday 2023 falls on Friday, November 24. Keep your eyes tuned to Macworld for the best deal alerts. We’ll be covering discounts throughout November, and on to Cyber Monday on November 27.
What should I look for in a USB-C charger?
Chargers deliver power to your devices and that brings in a level of over-heating risk, so it’s best to stick to recognizable brands like Anker, Ugreen, Belkin and the like. All the USB-C charger deals listed here are from brands we trust and often on products that we have tested. That said, there are a few things you should always look for when shopping for a charger.
Laptop chargers should be PD (Power Delivery) certified. PD 3.0 can charge at up to 100W; PD 3.1 up to 240W. But most laptops require only 100W so you may not need anything more powerful—although buying 3.1 now might future-proof your purchase as it will still work with lower-powered devices.
Look for chargers with multiple ports so you can charge more than one device at the same time—maybe your laptop and your phone, or multiple phones and tablets. Remember that the wattage quoted in the charger name refers to the total power output so a 100W charger could charge a laptop at 65W and a phone at 20W and have enough over for some headphones but not another two laptops.
How much wattage should you look for?
If you need a charger just to power up your phone, you shouldn’t need anything higher than 45W (which allows for the fastest Samsung phone charging) but 20W is probably enough for most phones.
Check your laptop’s technical specs to find out how much you need but as a rule of thumb
small laptops may require as little as 30W but you’d be safer with at least 45W. Mid-sized laptops will need 65W and larger laptops either 100W or 140W.
