People are more disconnected from reality than ever, and as any baby boomer will say, it’s because of “those darn phones”. It is those darn phones. We engage with virtual spaces that feel more authentic than the physical world we live in. The technology industry thrives on this detachment and continues to design devices, apps, and platforms to keep you plugged in.
So when someone tells you to go touch grass, you know you’ve crossed a line. You’ve said or done something so outlandish that the only logical response is to remind you that the world still exists outside. That is what Dbrand is doing with their latest product launch.
Dbrand launches turf-themed skins and grip cases
Tech skin maker Dbrand has turned a slang into accessories and released them on the most notorious day. April 1, which marks April Fools’ day, witnessed the launch of their Touch Grass skins and cases. It’s a satirical yet stylish way to acknowledge our tech addiction while fully embracing it.
Instead of logging off, you can bring the grass to your device. Because if we’re being real, you’re not going to go outside anytime soon. Even if you did, you would be too distracted by your device to look around you.
The Touch Grass collection is available as a skin or a Grip Case. Pricing starts at $29.95 for smartphones and $39.95 for tablets across Apple, Google, Asus, and Samsung phones. Products for laptops start at $69.95, and they are available for consoles and other devices as well. For $19.95 extra, you can add two screen protectors to your order before checkout.
All choices come with a free surprise gift. It’s not much of a mystery since Dbrand exposed what it is on the retro themed store page. Each Touch Grass order includes an extra grass decal that you can stick on another device or keep as a backup design.

Touch Grass collection isn’t made of actual grass
To answer the question on your mind, no. Dbrand’s Touch Grass skins and grip cases aren’t covered in actual grass. Instead, they’re made of synthetic fibers designed to feel like artificial turf. Each square centimeter apparently has over 1,000 strands. It’s ridiculously dense and similar to the fake grass you’d find on some football fields or modern backyards, but miniaturized for your phone.
Dbrand doesn’t shy away from the fact that shedding will happen. But in their defence, “don’t freak out, there’s still plenty left”. You likely won’t notice empty patches for a long time. But if you’re not sold on the idea of grass droppings, you may want to check out other products.
Witty as their product seems, it does raise some major concerns. When you step back, you realize it’s a shedding machine for synthetic fibers. The last thing the planet needs is another product quietly sprinkling tiny plastic strands around every time you pull your phone out of your pocket.
Then there’s wireless charging to think about. It requires strong magnets and a smooth surface for a secure connection. That artificial turf is guaranteed to mess with the alignment. So at the end of the day, who really needs to touch grass? Dbrand or its customers?
That said they have no shortage of other device accessories, including the recently launched Glow-In-The-Dark and Area 51 themed versions. But the Touch Grass collection is a limited edition. If you want one, grab it before it’s gone forever.
