Delaware Patent Litigation Funding Probes Paused Pending Review

Judge Colm F. Connolly paused half a dozen patent infringement cases, at the request of plaintiffs, while the Federal Circuit decides whether the District of Delaware chief judge’s requests for detailed financial information in cases he suspects make use of litigation funding are justified.

Connolly granted stay requests Tuesday in cases brought by Safe IP LLC and Missed Call LLC against software companies including plagiarism checker Copyleaks Inc. and call-and-text platform Twilio Inc. The companies had been scheduled to appear in a Nov. 30 evidentiary hearing—part of a series Connolly is hosting to explore potential patent funding arrangements—but new docket …
